Pune, 5th March 2025: In a special three-day campaign, the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has demolished 904 illegal constructions across 90,600 square meters near national and state highways surrounding Pune. The drive, conducted from 3rd to 5th March, aims to ease traffic congestion and reclaim encroached land.

The demolition campaign targeted unauthorized structures along key routes, including Pune-Nashik Highway, Pune-Solapur Highway, and Pune-Chandni Chowk to Paud Road. Today, PMRDA officials removed 252 illegal constructions covering approximately 25,200 square feet. Many locals voluntarily dismantled their encroachments following notices issued by the authorities.

The first day of the campaign saw the removal of 201 illegal structures spanning 20,100 square feet, while yesterday, authorities cleared 453 unauthorized constructions covering 45,300 square feet. Over the three days, a total of 904 illegal constructions were demolished under the supervision of PMRDA Commissioner Dr. Yogesh Mhase.

Dr. Mhase emphasized that PMRDA’s survey of illegal constructions within its jurisdiction is ongoing and assured that similar action will continue against unauthorized structures to prevent further encroachment. Local police officers and PMRDA officials urged citizens not to engage in illegal construction activities.

The campaign was executed with the assistance of Deputy Collector Dr. Deepti Suryawanshi Patil and a team of engineers and police personnel. This large-scale operation is expected to improve traffic flow and ensure better urban planning in the affected areas.
