Pune: PMRDA Reviews Road Development Works in Hinjewadi and Chakan to Ease Traffic Congestion
Pune, 3rd September 2025: To address severe traffic congestion in Hinjewadi and Chakan, the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has intensified measures over the past month, including road widening and removal of illegal constructions and encroachments. PMRDA Metropolitan Commissioner Dr. Yogesh Mhase chaired a joint review meeting with administrative authorities on Wednesday, directing that all pending works be completed on priority.
Acting under instructions from the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister, PMRDA, along with local bodies, has already cleared 19 kilometers of encroachments in Hinjewadi and initiated proposals for new and widened roads. Dr. Mhase instructed officials to expedite land measurement and acquisition processes to ensure faster execution.
The review covered key stretches including Lakshmi Chowk–Mezza 9 Hotel, Pandavnagar–Man village–Phase 3, Lakshmi Chowk–Marunji–Kolte Patil Gate, Lakshmi Chowk–Padmabhushan Chowk–Wipro Circle, Madhuban Hotel–Chhatrapati Shivaji Chowk, Shivaji Chowk–MIDC boundary, Kasarsai Road, Pride Road–Wipro Circle, and Shivaji Chowk–Padmabhushan Chowk. Officials also discussed progress on alternative roads in Man, Hinjewadi, and Marunji to ease bottlenecks.
Senior officials present included Additional Metropolitan Commissioner Deepak Singla, Superintendent of Police (Vigilance) Amol Zhende, Chief Engineer Rinaz Pathan, Planning Director Avinash Patil, Deputy Commissioner (Illegal Constructions) Dr. Deepti Suryawanshi-Patil, and Deputy Commissioner (Land & Property) Himmat Kharade, along with representatives from the Irrigation Department, MIDC, MSEB, MPCB, PWD, National Highways Authority, municipalities, and the Zilla Parishad.
Action in Chakan Next Week:
Following the Hinjewadi drives, authorities will shift focus to Chakan next week, where removal of encroachments and demolition of unauthorized structures is scheduled to begin Monday. The review also covered the Pune–Nashik highway (Nashik Phata–Rajgurunagar elevated road), Chakan–Talegaon–Shikrapur route, potholes on industrial area roads, traffic congestion, truck terminals, and proposed bypass roads in Chakan. Dr. Mhase directed all concerned agencies to take decisive steps for smoother traffic flow and improved civic infrastructure.
