Viman Nagar, 11th February 2026: In a decisive move to curb traffic congestion and pedestrian inconvenience, the Vimantal (Airport) Police Station, in coordination with the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), launched a massive two-day anti-encroachment drive on February 10 and 11, 2026.

The crackdown comes following repeated complaints from local residents regarding the nuisance caused by illegal stalls, handcarts, and vendors occupying footpaths in the area.

Two-Day Operation Details

On Monday, February 10, a heavy deployment of police personnel—including 7 Police Inspectors, 8 Assistant/Sub-Inspectors, and 78 constables—led by DCP (Zone 4) Somay Munde, took action against 70 individuals. During this drive, the team seized 5 tempos, 5 stalls (thelas), 10 handcarts, and 50 other miscellaneous items. Cases have been registered against the offenders under relevant sections of the law.

The drive intensified on Tuesday, February 11, as the Vimantal Police teamed up with the Anti-Encroachment Department of the Pune Municipal Corporation. The joint team targeted over 30 illegal hawkers and stall owners, confiscating three truckloads of material.

Authorities have issued a strict warning that such actions will be a regular feature going forward. “Regular action will continue against illegal handcarts, hawkers, and vendors found encroaching on footpaths within the Vimantal Police Station limits,” the press note stated.

The operation was conducted under the guidance of Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar, Joint CP Ranjan Kumar Sharma, Additional CP (East Region) Manoj Patil, DCP (Zone 7) Somay Munde, and ACP (Lonikand Division) Nutan Pawar. The execution was led by Senior Police Inspector Govind Jadhav and his team.
