PMC Cracks Down on Waste Burning in Pisoli, Slaps Rs 25,000 Fine
Pune, 11th February 2026: Acting against practices that threaten air quality and public health, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has imposed a Rs 25,000 penalty on individuals caught burning garbage in the Pisoli area. The action was carried out by the Kondhwa–Yeolewadi Regional Office as part of ongoing enforcement drives targeting environmental violations.
The incident came to light during a routine inspection conducted by officials from the PMC’s Health and Solid Waste Management Department at Survey No. 23, Nimbalkar Vasti. Authorities found a substantial quantity of waste being set on fire, a practice strictly banned under municipal regulations.
Civic officials emphasized that open burning of garbage releases toxic fumes, contributing to air pollution and posing serious health risks, particularly respiratory issues for residents in surrounding neighborhoods. Besides violating environmental norms, such acts also increase the likelihood of accidental fires.
Following the detection of the violation, PMC officials immediately levied the fine and issued a stern warning that similar offences will invite strict penalties in the future. The regional office reiterated that enforcement teams will continue conducting surprise inspections to prevent recurrence.
Residents have been urged to follow proper waste disposal procedures and cooperate with municipal authorities in maintaining sanitation and environmental safety. Officials said sustained vigilance and public participation are essential to curbing illegal waste burning.
The action forms part of PMC’s broader campaign to improve urban air quality and ensure adherence to solid waste management rules across the city.
