Pune Police Ban Drones, Paragliders After Operation Sindoor Amid Terror Threat; Security Tightened at Key Sites

Pune, 14th May 2025: In the wake of Operation Sindoor and heightened national security concerns, Pune Police’s Special Branch has imposed a temporary ban on the use of drones, remote-controlled aircraft, microlights, paragliders, paramotors, hand gliders, and hot air balloons within the city limits. The order, issued by Joint Commissioner of Police Ranjan Kumar Sharma, is in effect from 14th May to 12th June, as a preventive measure against possible terrorist attacks targeting vital installations, religious sites, tourist locations, and VVIPs.
Joint Commissioner Sharma stated, “In the aftermath of Operation Sindoor, the possibility of terrorist organizations targeting important locations in the country cannot be ruled out. From a security and law and order perspective, there is a risk that terrorist or anti-national elements could use drones, remote control devices, or similar aerial platforms to carry out attacks, endanger public life, damage property, and disrupt peace in Pune city.”
The order, enacted under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita 2023, prohibits the operation of all such aerial devices in Pune Police Commissionerate jurisdiction for 30 days. Exceptions will be made only for police surveillance or with explicit written permission from the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Special Branch, Pune Police. Violators will face penalties under Section 223 of the same act.
These measures follow increased security deployments at sensitive locations across Pune, including religious landmarks and defense establishments, as police and district administration intensify vigilance post-Operation Sindoor. Public appeals have been issued for citizens to remain alert and report suspicious activity, as authorities conduct mock drills and coordinate with multiple agencies to ensure preparedness.
