Pune Spice And Dry Fruits Association Bans Turkish Dry Fruits Amid Rising India-Pakistan Tensions

Pune, 14th May 2025: The Spice and Dry Fruits Association of Pune has announced a boycott on the import of Turkish apricots and hazelnuts, aligning with the ongoing “Ban Turkey” initiative in response to recent India-Pakistan tensions. The move follows the ‘Operation Sindoor’, which encourages traders to shun products from countries perceived as supportive of Pakistan, particularly Turkey.
Earlier, traders from the Fruit Market at Market Yard had imposed a ban on Turkish apples, citing similar reasons. With escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, Indian traders have taken a firm stance against Turkish products, aiming to promote indigenous goods instead.
According to the association, the boycott is a show of solidarity against Turkey’s perceived support for Pakistan amidst the conflict. The association are prioritizing Indian products and it is seen that they will continue to do so until the situation normalizes.
The move has been met with widespread support among local traders and consumers, with many opting to purchase domestic products over foreign imports. Social media is currently abuzz with videos promoting the “Made in India” slogan, urging citizens to support local traders and reject foreign goods perceived as anti-India.
Market experts believe that the growing unity among Indian traders to boycott Turkish imports may boost the domestic market for Indian goods. The impact of this move on trade dynamics remains to be seen, but the association remains resolute in its stand to uphold national interest over foreign trade.
