Pune, 25th May 2023: The social security cell of Pune Police crime branch has made a significant breakthrough in exposing a cricket betting racket targeting IPL matches. On May 24 (Wednesday), a raid was conducted on a flat located on the 9th floor of Galaxy One society in the Kharadi area, resulting in the arrest of six prominent bookies from Chhattisgarh, Punjab, and Bihar.
The police have seized 16 mobile handsets, 2 laptops, WiFi router and Rs 4.8 lakh cash the accused.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Jasprit Manjinder Singh (29) from Shivajinagar, Ludhiana, Punjab, Tarandeep Baljinder Singh (33) from Shivajinagar, Ludhiana, Punjab, Gaurav Dayaram Dharamwani (27) from Khamatrai Raipur, Chhattisgarh, Sunish Tulshidas Lakhawani (25) from Gudiyari, Raipur, Chhattisgarh, Ram (name and age undisclosed) from Darbhanga, Bihar, and Japjit Singh Atamjit Singh Bagga (25) from Raipur, Chhattisgarh.
The officials received crucial information regarding widespread cricket betting taking place in a flat within a society in Kharadi. Acting swiftly, the authorities executed the raid and discovered that the accused were accepting bets on the live Tata IPL 2023 match between the Mumbai Indians and Lucknow Super Giants through various websites.
This action was taken under the guidance of Commissioner of Police Retesh Kumaarr, Joint Commissioner of Police Sandeep Karnik, Additional Commissioner of Police Ramnath Pokle, Deputy Commissioner of Police Amol Zende. The team included Senior Police Inspector Bharat Jadhav, Assistant Police Inspector Aniket Pote, Assistant Police Inspector Rajesh Malegave, and police personnel Rajendra Kumawat, Baba Karpe, Bhivarkar, Sandeep Kolge, Ajay Rane, Sagar Kekan, Amey Rasal, Kishore Bhujbal, and Omkar Kumbar.
