Pune, 19th December 2021: The anti-extortion cell 1 of Pune City Police Crime Branch has nabbed six persons including one of its own constables for allegedly kidnapping a businessman for the ransom of Rs 50 lakh.

Based on the complaint from the 33-year-old businessman from a village in Shirur taluka, an FIR was registered at the Sahakarnagar police station. Later, the case was transferred to Shirur police station under Pune rural police for investigation as the crime began in their jurisdiction.

The arrested persons have been identified as Anil Laxman Hagwane (33) of Dhankawadi, Kiran Sopan Bhilare (35) of Bhilarewadi near Katraj, Vishal Anil Jagtap (22) of Katraj, Sandeep Chandrakant Pokharkar (24) of Dhankawadi, Abhijit Dattatraya Deshmukh (29) of Bibwewadi, constable Manoj Dnyaneshwar Bhargude (32) of Ambegaon Pathar. Their accomplice Ranjit alias Bapu Paygude is wanted.

According to police, the complainant had taken Rs 15 lakh loan from accused Hagwane and Rs 9 lakh from Bhilare at 10 per cent interest rate in 2018. Constable Manoj Bhargude, who is posted with the police headquarters in Shivajinagar, beat him and asked him to settle the case. The accused had called his sister and cousin brother to get the money or documents of the land.

Meanwhile, policemen Ramesh Choudhar and Amar Pawar of the anti-extortion cell came to know that the accused had detained youth in the Balajinagar area for not being able to pay interest money. Accordingly, a team led by Assistant Police Inspector Sandeep Buwa rushed to the spot and rescued the complainant.
