Pune Police Detain Army Hawaldar For Role In Suicide of 21-Year-Old Woman
Pune, 30th March 2023: A Hawaldar in the Indian Army has been arrested by Pune city police for allegedly abetting the suicide of a 21-year-old woman, who was working as a tutor for his children. The accused, who is deployed at the National Defence Academy (NDA) in Pune, had promised to marry the victim after divorcing his wife.
However, he did not fulfill his promise, which led to the victim’s suicide on March 25. The woman was a student of Commerce at a college in Pune.
The victim’s elder brother filed a report with the Uttam Nagar Police Station, alleging that the accused did not agree to marry his sister despite repeated requests. After the victim did not respond to calls for a long time, the family became suspicious and found her hanging in the bathroom.
The police have detained the accused, and a case has been registered under Sections 498 (a) and 306 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Further investigation is underway.
