Pune Police Invokes MCOCA Against 100 Gangs In Last One And Half Years: Commissioner Amitabh Gupta

Pune, 7th October 2022: In the last one and a half years, Pune Police Commissioner Amitabh Gupta has taken action against 670 goons from 100 organised gangs who have been terrorising and cheating people. The goons were booked under the Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act (MOCCA).

 

The 100th case has been registered against Dhiraj Bharat Punekar (36) of Solapur and his eight other accomplices by the cyber police station for cheating through a loan app. In the last three years, 5,000 people in the city and district have been cheated through the loan app. There was a recent incident of a youth committing suicide due to the use of a loan app.

Police commissioner Gupta had ordered the cyber police to take strict action against the gangs who were cheating through the loan app. The cyber police then swung into action in Bengaluru, Solapur and Pune and arrested 18 people. A call centre run by a gang in Bengaluru was raided.

 

There were cases of citizens across the country being cheated through the loan app. The citizens were troubled by the harassment of the miscreants who had cheated in this manner. Police commissioner Gupta told a press conference today that MCOCA action has been taken against the gang.

 

Joint Commissioner of Police Sandeep Karnik, Additional Commissioner Ramnath Pokale, Dr Jalindar Supekar, DCP (Cyber Crime) Bhagyashree Navtakke, DCP (Crime) Srinivas Ghadge and others were present on the occasion.
