Pune Police Probe Girl Student’s Suicide, Arrest Hostel Manager For Assaulting Her

PUNE, 11th April 2024: A young woman preparing for competitive exams (MPSC) in Pune allegedly died by suicide on April 7. The deceased, identified as Abhilasha Mittal, was found hanging in her hostel room located in the Guruwar Peth area.

Initial investigations revealed marks of violence on Abhilasha’s body, raising suspicion of foul play. The Khadak Police station officials launched a probe to determine the cause of death.

The investigation took a crucial turn after Abhilasha’s father, Mahendra Mittal, filed a complaint alleging harassment by the hostel manager, Sunil Parameshwar Mahanor. According to the complaint, Abhilasha had a confrontation with Sunil over a security deposit, which turned physical. 

Reports indicate that Abhilasha contacted her father after the altercation, expressing her desire to change the hostel. Later she was found hanging in her room which was closed from inside.

Devastated by the incident, Mahendra Mittal lodged a formal complaint with the Khadak Police Station, accusing Sunil of abetment to suicide.

Based on the complaint and investigation findings, the Khadak Police have arrested Sunil Mahanor. Further investigations are underway to establish the complete sequence of events.
