Pune Police Raid Illegal Hookah Parlor in Viman Nagar; Seven Arrested, Contraband Worth Rs 1.47 Lakh Seized
Viman Nagar, 7th April 2026: The Anti-Narcotics Cell (Unit 2) of the Pune City Police Crime Branch conducted a major raid on an illegal hookah parlor operating at a rooftop lounge in Viman Nagar. During the operation, officials seized hookah apparatus and foreign liquor worth ₹1,47,550 and arrested seven individuals.
On April 5, 2026, while the Anti-Narcotics Cell Unit 2 was patrolling the Zone 7 jurisdiction as part of a “combing operation” against illegal businesses, they received confidential information. The tip-off indicated that an illegal hookah bar was being operated without a permit at the Atlantis Roof Top Lounge Hotel in Viman Nagar.
Acting on the instructions of senior officials, the police team raided the establishment. They found the accused serving hookah and storing/selling foreign liquor illegally within the premises.
The police have booked and detained seven individuals in connection with the raid:
Swapnil Shantaram Tambe (32), resident of Wagholi.
Amey Mukesh Ajmire (28), resident of Wagholi.
Navrang Vitthalrao Kolhe (28), resident of Viman Nagar.
Amitkumar Dayalji Goyal (26), resident of Kharadi.
Kamrul Islam Lashkar (26), resident of Kharadi.
Shivamkumar Shriramraj Yadav (23), resident of Sadar.
Mahroof Aftafuddin Alam (18), resident of Sadar.
The police confiscated hookah pots, bottles of foreign liquor, related equipment, and cash, totaling a value of ₹1,47,550.
A case (FIR No. 200/2026) has been registered at the Vimantal (Airport) Police Station. The accused face charges under:
Sections 4(a) and 21(a) of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products (Maharashtra Amendment) Act, 2018.
Section 65(e) of the Maharashtra Prohibition Act.
The operation was carried out under the guidance of Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar, Joint CP Ranjankumar Sharma, Addl. CP (Crime) Pankaj Deshmukh, DCP (Crime) Nikhil Pingle, and ACP (Crime 3) Shankar Khatke. The execution team was led by Senior Police Inspector Pandit Rejitwad of the Anti-Narcotics Cell, along with API Nitin Naik and other staff members.
