Pune Police Recover Valuables Worth Rs 48 Lakh From Gang That Robbed Jewellery Shop In Mohammadwadi

Pune, 19th May 2024: An armed robbery at BGS Jewelers near Wadkar Mala in the Mohammadwadi area was swiftly resolved by Pune Police, who arrested the gang responsible within 12 hours.

 

The incident occurred on Saturday, 18th May, around noon, when seven individuals stormed the shop, threatening the staff with a pistol and other weapons before making off with 300 grams of gold jewelry.

 

Shafiuddin Ghiyasuddin Sheikh, 23, a resident of Nanapeth, Pune, filed a complaint at the Wanwadi police station, prompting a case to be registered against the robbers under IPC Sections 395, 397, 398, the Arms Act, and the Maharashtra Police Act.

 

 

Acting quickly, Pune Police’s Crime Branch dispatched 10 teams to track down the perpetrators. These teams scoured the area and managed to apprehend the suspects, recovering stolen ornaments and other goods totally worth Rs 48 lakh.

 

The arrested individuals are Sunny alias Yogesh Hiraman Pavle, 20, of Vasantnagar, Paud Road, Kothrud; Sunny alias Aditya Raju Gade, 19; Piyush Kalpesh Kedari, 18, of Yerwada; Omkar alias Omya Jagan Walhekar, 19, of Jaibhavani Nagar, Kothrud; Narayan alias Naru Balu Gawli, 20, of Tilekar Nagar, Katraj; Mayur Chunnilal Patel, 53, of Wanwadi; and Nasir Mehmud Sheikh, 32, of Chambharwada, Wanwadi.

 

At a press conference held at the Police Commissioner’s office today, DCP (Crime Branch) Amol Zende stated, “A parallel investigation was initiated by forming 10 teams from Crime Branch Units 4, 5, and 6, along with the Anti-Extortion Squads 1 and 2, and the Robbery and Vehicle Theft Squad 2. The teams used information and technical analysis to track down and detain the suspects. Upon thorough interrogation, they confessed to committing the robbery with the help of three other accomplices. We seized gold weighing 601.15 grams, two two-wheelers, one four-wheeler, and six mobile phones, with a total value of Rs 48 lakh 30 thousand 910 from the accused.”

 

Several of the arrested individuals, including Pawale, Gade, and Patel, are known criminals with prior murder cases registered against them at the Sinhgad Road and Narayangaon police stations.

 

The detection operation was conducted under the guidance of Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar, Joint CP Pravin Pawar, Additional CP (Crime) Shailesh Balkawade and DCP (Crime) Amol Zende. The teams included ACP (Crime 2) Satish Govekar, ACP (Crime 1) Sunil Tambe, Police Inspectors Pratap Mankar from Anti-Extortion Squad 2, Ajay Waghmare from Robbery and Theft Squad 2, Ulhas Kadam from Unit 6, Kranti Kumar Patil from Anti-Extortion Squad 1, API Vijaykumar Shinde, API Shivdas Lahne, PSI Avinash Lohote, PSI Srikant Chavan, PSI Yashwant Ombase and police personnel Amol Awad, Rajendra Landge, Vijay Kamble, Prafulla Chavan, Mayur Bhokare, Sayaji Chavan, Ashok Shelar, Amol Sartape, Chetan Shirolkar, Rahul Ingle, Vinayak Yewle, Surendra Jagdale, Anil Kusalkar, Amol Ghavte, Dilip Gore, Kharat, Pawan Bhosle, Vinod Shivale, Ashruba Morale, Rajas Sheikh, Pramod Tilekar, Amit Kamble, Dawood Syed, Mauli Giramkar, Sudesh Sapankal, Suresh Jadhav, Shirish Gosavi, Ramesh Memane, Suhas Tambekar, Balasaheb Sakte, Hrishikesh Takwane, Hrishikesh Vyavhare, Rahul Dhamdhere, Akbar Sheikh, Pravin Dhamal, Shahaji Kale, Ravindra Phulpagare and Amar Pawar.
