Pune Police Rescue Man Stranded on Mula-Mutha Barrage Amid Rising Water Flow

Kharadi, 19th June 2025: In a heroic act of swift response and bravery, officers from the Kharadi Police Station rescued a man stranded with his motorcycle on the Mula-Mutha river barrage road near Keshavnagar around 2:30 PM today.

According to officials, the Kharadi Police received an alert that water discharge from the Mula-Mutha river was about to increase. Sub-Inspector Khandekar and his team immediately rushed to the location to close the river road for public safety. On arrival, they spotted a man stuck at the center of the barrage with rising water levels threatening to sweep him away.

While the fire brigade was immediately informed, the rapidly increasing flow posed a critical threat. Realizing that there was no time to waste, Sub-Inspector Khandekar, along with police personnel Dorge, Havaldar Sayyed, constables Gaikwad, Thorat, Malwande, Salke, and Kale, formed a human chain with the help of ropes and successfully pulled the individual to safety, risking their own lives in the process.

The rescued individual has been identified as Nawaz Khurshid Kotwal (38), a resident of Tukaram Nagar, Chandan Nagar, Pune. Following the rescue, the river barrage road was immediately barricaded and completely closed to prevent further incidents.

Senior Police Inspector Chavan of Kharadi Police Station commended the swift and courageous efforts of the responding officers.
