Pune Police Return Stolen, Lost Valuables Worth Rs 3.80 Crore to 299 Complainants

Pune, 22nd January 2025: Police from three zones of the West Region of the Pune City Police Commissionerate have solved three hundred crimes through their efforts. The seized goods worth Rs 3.80 Crore were returned to the complainants by Maharashtra’s Higher and Technical Education Minister and Kothrud MLA Chandrakant Patil of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today.
Pune City Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar, Joint Commissioner of Police Ranjan Kumar Sharma, Additional Commissioner of Police (West) Praveen Kumar Patil, and Deputy Commissioners of Police Sandeep Singh Gill (Zone 1), Smartana Patil (Zone 2), and Sambhaji Kadam (Zone 3) were present on the occasion.
Of the three zones:
– Zone 1, which includes Samarth, Khadak, Faraskhana, Vishrambaug, Shivajinagar, and Deccan Police Stations, returned property worth Rs 74.81 Lakh to 63 complainants.
– Zone 2, comprising Lashkar, Bund Garden, Koregaon Park, Swargate, Sahakar Nagar, and Bharati Vidyapeeth Police Stations, returned property worth Rs 77.20 Lakh to 65 complainants.
– Zone 3, covering Kothrud, Warje Malwadi, Uttam Nagar, Alankar, Sinhagad Road, and Parvati Police Stations, returned property worth Rs 2.28 Crore to 171 complainants.
In total, 299 complainants had their items returned, including phones, jewellery, vehicles, and other valuables.
Commissioner Amitesh Kumar stated, “It is the police’s responsibility to solve crimes and return stolen items to complainants. These efforts will continue in the future.” He noted a 20 to 35 % reduction in murder and attempted murder cases in the city compared to 2023. Over a hundred habitual criminals have been acted against under the Maharashtra Prevention of Dangerous Activities Act (MPDA) of 1981, and special measures are being taken to prevent ‘street crime’.
Addressing Pune’s fourth-place ranking in global traffic congestion, Kumar mentioned successful efforts to resolve congestion in the Pune University area and ongoing measures for other areas.
Kumar also clarified that there is no ‘Koyta Gang’ in the city, explaining that this image is created whenever any sharp weapon is used to commit a crime. He assured that the police are taking strict action against criminals and solving citizens’ problems transparently.
