Pune Police Takes Strict Action Against Extortionists, Invokes MCOCA

Warje, 26th March 2023: Pune Police Commissioner Retesh Kumaarr has ordered the arrest of Laxman alias Bhaiya Shendge and his accomplices under the Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act (MOCCA) for extorting money from local businessmen.

The accused forced their way into a beer shop in Warje, Pune, and took crates of beer bottles, demanding money from the shop owner. When he refused to pay, the gang threatened and extorted him.

Despite preventive action taken by the police, Shendge and his accomplices continued their illegal activities. DS Hake, Senior Police Inspector of Warje Police Station proposed to take MCOCA action against them, which was subsequently approved by Additional Commissioner Rajendra Dahale and DCP Suhail Sharma. The gang members have been identified as Laxman alias Bhaiya Yedba Shendge, Swami alias Kalu Dnyaneshwar Khawle, Aditya Ganesh Mandalik, and Anil Bapu Bansode.

Police Commissioner Kumaarr has taken decisive action against 19 gangs in the city so far. MOCCA is a stringent law designed to combat organized crime and provides for harsh punishment, including life imprisonment and forfeiture of property.
