Hinjawadi, 9th July 2025: Power supply to Hinjawadi and surrounding areas has been fully restored after a major fault in the Maharashtra State Transmission Company’s (Mahatransco) 220 kV Infosys to Pegasus transmission line was successfully repaired at 12:40 PM on Wednesday. The dedicated efforts of Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Limited (MSEDCL) and Mahatransco staff ensured that all industries and residential consumers in the affected region are now receiving normal electricity supply.

The fault, which occurred near the Hinjawadi Metro Station on Sunday Afternoon (6th July), led to an emergency power outage impacting 52,000 low-tension consumers, 91 high-tension consumers, and two extra-high-tension customers including Infosys and Nextra. The outage was triggered during scheduled maintenance work at the Hinjawadi and Pegasus 220 kV substations, when power supply was temporarily shut down at 11 AM on Sunday. The fault developed at 2:10 PM, resulting in a widespread blackout.

MSEDCL responded swiftly by rerouting power through alternative lines. By 4 AM on Monday, supply to all 52,000 low-tension consumers was restored, with only 35 high-tension consumers remaining without power. By Monday evening, 76 out of 91 high-tension customers had their supply reinstated, and by Tuesday, all but 11 major industrial customers were reconnected. These remaining industries were provided five-hour rotational supply, and a load of approximately 63 MW was successfully diverted. Only two Nextra customers, requiring about 25 MW, remained without supply until the final repair was completed.

Senior officials, including Mahatransco Director Satish Chavan and MSEDCL Chief Engineer Sunil Kakade, coordinated restoration efforts on the ground in Pune. Teams worked round the clock, deploying additional manpower and resources to both restore supply via alternative routes and repair the main transmission line.

“The fault was a major one, and rerouting power from other substations was a complex task. Thanks to the tireless efforts of our staff and agencies, we overcame this crisis. Consumers also showed patience and cooperation during this period,” said Sunil Kakade, Chief Engineer, Mahavitaran, Pune Circle.
