Pune: Property Auction Looms as PCMC Targets Tax Defaulters Owing Rs 3 Lakh+

Pimpri, 4th December 2024: The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) is set to crack down on properties with significant outstanding tax dues. Properties with arrears exceeding Rs 3 lakh are under scrutiny, with 2,683 properties owing over Rs 3 lakh and 1,032 properties with dues surpassing Rs 5 lakh. The total outstanding amount from these properties is estimated at Rs 200 crore, and the PCMC is preparing to initiate property seizure actions.
According to the Tax Assessment and Collection Department, Pimpri-Chinchwad has 6,33,294 registered properties, including 5,41,168 residential properties, 57,733 non-residential properties, 4,563 industrial properties, 11,232 vacant lands, 16,001 mixed-use properties, and 2,506 other types. In the first nine months of the current financial year, PCMC has collected Rs 550 crore in property tax, with contributions from 3.79 lakh property owners.

Decline in Collection
The current collection is Rs 83 crore lower compared to the Rs 633 crore collected during the same period last year. The shortfall is attributed to disruptions caused by staff deployment for the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections, impacting routine tax collection efforts.
Assistant Commissioner Avinash Shinde stated that a total of Rs 203 crore is owed by 2,683 property owners. The Municipal Corporation is prioritizing the seizure of these properties, and the auction process for 43 previously seized properties will also be finalized soon.
