Pune Property Owners Must Submit Residency Proof For 40% Tax Exemption
Pune, 4th May 2023: The Maharashtra state government has announced a revised tax relief plan for property holders in Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). The new bills will be distributed from May 15, but residents must submit an application (PT 3 printed application) with proof that they live in the property by November 15, 2023.
If any false information is given, the individual will not receive any exemption from property tax.
Residents who have paid 100% tax for the last four years must submit an application (PT 3 form) to the Municipal Corporation before November 15, 2023, stating that they are residing in the same property. Proof of residence at this address is also required. Applications received after November 15 will not be considered for exemption. After receiving the application, tax inspectors will check the property and documents. If false information is given, no tax exemption will be applicable.
The PMC had cancelled the 40% exemption and levied 100% tax on about one lakh properties taxed from April 1, 2019. Property holders who have paid 100% tax for the last four years, will be given the benefit of 40% concession in tax bills over the next four financial years in four phases.
According to Additional Commissioner Dr Kunal Khemnar, the 40% tax discount that was cancelled in 2018 has been re-implemented for property owners in Pune. This discount will be from 2019. Additionally, the 15% deduction for maintenance and repair of residential and non-residential properties before April 1, 2019, will be cancelled, and 10% will be given. However, this will only be implemented from April 1, 2023.
“To increase property tax revenue, the Municipal Corporation has introduced a unique prize scheme for regular taxpayers this year. Under this scheme, regular taxpayers will be entered into a lucky draw, and they will be given attractive prizes. This initiative aims to encourage timely payment of taxes”, informed PMC Commissioner Vikram Kumar.
