Pune, 9th November 2022: While the work of the Pune-Nashik high-speed rail project is going on at full speed in the district, the work of the project in Khed taluka has been thwarted by the Defense Department. Therefore, the work at this place has been stopped for now. This project is passing through the army premises in Khed taluka and it has suddenly been objected to.
Against this backdrop, the district administration has changed the route from Khed taluka and the revised route plan has been submitted to the railway administration.

Maharashtra Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd., a joint venture of the State Government and Ministry of Railways, this railway line is proposed through Pune, Nagar and Nashik districts. It includes a total of 54 villages in four talukas namely Haveli, Khed, Ambegaon and Junnar in the Pune district.

Pune district includes stations like Hadapsar, Manjar, Wagholi, Alandi, Chakan, Rajgurunagar, Manchar, Narayangaon, and Alephata along with Pune’s first station. Among the major stations, Chakan, Manchar and Narayangaon, stations will be agricultural produce and private freight terminals and Rajgurunagar station will be for passenger traffic only. However, the work in Khed taluka has been stopped due to objection from the Defense Department.

Speaking about this, Collector Dr Rajesh Deshmukh said, “The Defense Department has objected to the alignment of the project at Khed. There is an explosives disposal centre of the army in Khed taluka and it has been objected that it is being hampered by the Pune-Nashik railway project. The enumeration of the respective villages and the assessment of the land to be acquired was also completed.”

“During the preparation of the detailed project report by the Railways, no objection was raised by the Defense Department, and now, due to the sudden objection, the work there has been stopped. In this background, the route between 12 villages in Khed Taluka of the project has been newly aligned. This revised route plan has been sent to the Railway Administration. A discussion has been held with railway official Ajay Jaiswal,” he added further.

So far, more than 20 hectares of land have been taken over by agreement, explained Collector Deshmukh.

Regarding the Pune-Nashik high-speed rail project, the Ministry of Railways has raised some technical issues and suggested a road railway. However, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has given the order to continue the land acquisition for the project in a recent meeting regarding this project, Deshmukh explained further.
