Chinchwad, 16th November 2024: Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, visited Wakad today evening, which is part of the Chinchwad constituency, in connection with the upcoming Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Elections. In response, Mahavikas Aghadi’s candidate Rahul Kalate from the Nationalist Congress Party – Sharadchandra Pawar (NCP-SP) has written an emotional letter to Gadkari. In the letter, Kalate appeals for Gadkari’s attention to the ongoing issues in the constituency. The letter was widely shared on social media throughout the day in Pimpri Chinchwad city, just ahead of Gadkari’s meeting.

Kalate’s letter reminds residents of the daily challenges they face while travelling along the highway or service road from Wakad-Punawale to Ravet-Kiwale, where roads are in poor condition, with potholes and craters in the service road, especially during the monsoon season. “I have repeatedly corresponded with you about this,” Kalate wrote.

“I am writing again because I understand you are visiting the city today. This dialogue of ours is not new; I first raised this issue with you in 2018, when the service road conditions were similar. You took immediate notice and suggested repairs, but from 2018 to 2024, I have continued to write about the need to repair the Wakad-Tathawade-Punawale-Ravet-Kiwale road. I’ve also been corresponding regarding the construction of a four-lane subway, new service roads, the transfer of the Wakad to Kiwale Service Road to the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) for repairs, and the proposed elevated corridor from Wakad to Kiwale.”

Kalate further expressed his frustration, stating that despite continuous efforts, there has been little progress. “The highways and service roads have been in disrepair for years, with only temporary measures being taken,” Kalate added. “Similarly, a tanker-free Chinchwad remains just a pipe dream, and the rivers that were once the pride of Chinchwad are now suffering from pollution.”

Known for his forthrightness, Gadkari is urged by Kalate to provide real solutions rather than the usual promises. “We hope you will show us the way to change instead of just offering old assurances,” Kalate concluded.
