Pune, 12th December 2025: A day after recording the season’s lowest minimum temperature, Pune experienced a marginal rise in night temperatures on Friday. Shivajinagar, the city’s base observatory, registered a minimum of 8.3°C in the early hours of December 12, slightly higher than the 7.9°C recorded on Thursday, December 11 — the coldest morning of the season so far.

According to weather officials, northerly winds that led to the sharp drop in temperatures earlier this week are now expected to weaken due to the influence of easterly winds, resulting in a modest increase in minimum temperatures across parts of the city.

Speaking about the broader temperature trend in Maharashtra, Anupam Kashyapi, former head of the weather and forecasting division at IMD Pune, said the ongoing cold conditions will gradually ease.

“The current situation is likely to persist in Maharashtra till December 13. From then onward, minimum temperatures are expected to rise gradually in many areas. Weather models indicate a change in wind flow, and easterly winds are likely to dominate in the state, leading to a slight increase in minimum temperatures,” Kashyapi said.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has stated that while cold nights will continue for the next 24 hours, most districts in Maharashtra may see a steady rise in minimum temperatures beginning December 14.

Pune has been experiencing a noticeable chill over the past few days, with clear skies and dry air intensifying night-time cooling. Meteorologists say this brief cold phase is typical for early December, and fluctuations in minimum temperatures are expected as wind patterns shift.
