Pune, 16th November 2022: The Department of Marathi Language recently announced the government’s decision to accept the standardized Marathi alphabet and numerals in the Devanagari script. As per this government decision, it is necessary to change the textbook.

The attention of the education sector has turned to what decision Balbharti will take about it, especially as the Minister of the Marathi Language Department, Deepak Kesarkar, is also responsible for the School Education Department. The decision regarding the changes in the textbooks will be important as per the government’s decision.

A decision was taken in 2009 to adopt the standardized Marathi alphabet and numerals in the Devanagari script. However, that decision was opposed by Balbharti at that time. Now, a new government decision has been published after making some changes to the 2009 government decision. In it, it is explained about writing petaled ‘l’ and stemmed ‘sh’ in Marathi Devanagari’s script. Displeasure has been expressed by the education sector regarding this decision. Due to the implementation of this decision, the mood is being expressed to increase confusion rather than a benefit. As school education books are being published by Balbharti in the state, questions are being raised as to whether Balbharti will accept the changes to be made in the textbooks as per this government decision, and whether they will make changes in the textbooks.

When asked in this regard, the director of Balbharati, Krishnakumar Patil, said it is not possible to change the textbooks immediately following the new government decision. Changes may be made while publishing new course books. Before that, a discussion will be held with the members of the study board regarding this government decision. After that, the discussion will be held in the meeting of Balbharti’s governing body chaired by the Minister of School Education. A decision will be taken only after that.

The new syllabus books prepared as per the National Education Policy 2020 will be prepared by Balbharti. However, the new syllabus has not been prepared yet. The State Educational Research and Training Council is taking action to prepare the new curriculum.
