Pune: Residents of Lohgaon, Wadgaonsheri Demand Better Water Supply as Summer Nears

Lohgaon, 14th February 2025: With summer approaching, residents of Lohgaon and Wadgaonsheri have urged the civic administration to improve water supply, highlighting ongoing issues of low pressure and irregular distribution. Many of these localities receive water from the Bhama Askhed project but continue to face shortages despite infrastructure developments.
In Lohgaon, residents attributed the low water pressure to aging pipelines, which they claim are deteriorating and slowing the overall supply system. A local resident expressed frustration over the slow progress of pipeline replacement. “Many of the existing pipelines are old, rusted, and leaking, which affects water pressure. The replacement work is moving too slowly and needs to be completed at a faster pace,” he said.
Another resident of Lohgaon questioned why the supply remained inadequate even after the Bhama Askhed project was initiated. “Despite the project being operational, several parts of Lohgaon still struggle with erratic supply. The civic administration should address these gaps with area-specific solutions,” he stated.
Meanwhile, in Wadgaonsheri, inconsistent water supply has forced many housing societies to rely on water tankers to meet daily needs. “Unmonitored water release is leading to shortages. There needs to be better oversight to ensure that all areas receive an adequate supply instead of residents having to depend on private tankers,” an activist explained.
Amid mounting complaints, MLA Bapu Pathare recently convened a meeting with Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) officials to review the issue. He directed the water supply department to prioritize the completion of pending distribution line projects and warned officials of strict action if they failed to follow the scheduled water release timetable.
“The civic authorities have assured me that most of the work will be finished by March next year,” Pathare stated. “Some pipeline upgrades and distribution network improvements will be completed in the next three months, while others are expected to be done by October. We will closely monitor the progress, and I encourage residents to report any irregularities.”
PMC officials confirmed that replacement of old pipelines in Lohgaon is underway. “The distribution line work in Porwal Road and Khandwenagar is expected to be completed by the end of May,” a civic official said.
With summer demand rising, residents are hopeful that the ongoing upgrades will bring relief and resolve the persistent water supply issues in their neighborhoods.
