Pimpri, 8th September 2023: The continuous increase in rainfall has led to rising water levels in the Pavana Dam area, with water discharge from the dam further contributing to elevated river levels.

In response, Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Shekhar Singh has issued an appeal to citizens residing along the riverbanks to exercise caution and remain vigilant. The objective is to prevent any potential emergencies resulting from the heightened river water levels. The Municipal Corporation is taking necessary precautionary measures to address the situation.

Heavy rainfall has been observed in the Pavana, Andhra, and Vadiwale dam areas, which could potentially lead to further increases in water levels in the Pavana and Indrayani river basins by this evening. The Municipal Corporation has called on everyone to exercise due care and attention in light of these conditions.

As the Pavana Dam has reached its maximum capacity, approximately 5,600 cusecs of water have been released into the Pavana River from the dam’s power generation house and spillway this morning. This discharge is expected to increase in the near future.

Additional Commissioner Pradeep Jambhale Patil has urged citizens residing along the riverbanks to remain alert. Instructions have been received from the head of the Pavana Dam, and there may be changes in the dam’s discharge. As a result, no one should enter the riverbed for their safety.

The Indian Meteorological Department has forecasted the possibility of heavy rainfall in the coming days. To ensure safety, people are advised to avoid contact between rain, electric wires, electric poles, D.P. boxes, feeder boxes, and other electrically conductive areas. Additionally, animals should not be left or tethered in such areas. Industrial areas should refrain from storing chemical substances openly.

Joint Commissioner Chandrakant Indalkar has emphasized the importance of caution when coming into contact with water in these areas, as accidents may occur.
