Pune: Round Glass Academy Dominates 7th SNBP All-India Hockey Tournament with a Massive 27-0 Win
Pune, 1st October 2023: Sixty-one goals, an eight-goal effort by Samuel for first-timers Round Glass Academy, hat-tricks by K Ajay (Tamil Nadu Hockey Academy and Pralahad Panday (Sports Hostel Jhansi) apart from two double-digit scorelines outlines the opening day of the 7th SNBP All-India Hockey Tournament (Boys’ Under-16) at the Shiv Chhatrapathi Sports Complex, Balewadi here on Sunday.
The result of the day was however that of debutants Round Glass Academy, Punjab scoring a huge 27-0 win over last year’s third placed Anwar Hockey Society in a Pool-G encounter.
The tournament is being organised by the S.E Society’s SNBP Group of Institutes’ under the aegis of Hockey India and Hockey Maharashtra.
In the morning session, Telengana-based Bhongir Hockey Academy downed Kolkata Worriers Kolkata 7-0 in a Pool-E encounter to begin the tournament. Akash Saroj (5th, 52nd) and Harsh Patel (16th, 42nd) led the way, while Shiv Kannaujia (15th) Shobhit Kumar (55th) and Amit Yadav (60th) accounted for the rest.
Later, Tamil Nadu Hockey Academy scored at will for a 14-0 victory over Ryan Institute, Mumbai in Pool-A. The match was the first double-digit scoreline of the tournament and also had captain K Ajay (47th, 48th, 53rd) net a hat-trick in the second-half. Other scorers in the goal-glut were K.Sithesh (2nd), N.Goutham (6th, 35th), T. Gugan (11th), S.Mohan Nath (18th, 42nd, 43rd) V.Gokul (28th), P.Vishnuvarthan (34th, 57th), S.Sanjaykaran (45th).
Last year’s third placed team Anwar Hockey Society were in for a rude surprise when they were hammered 27-0 by Round Glass Academy in a Pool-G encounter.
The match not only was the highest scoreline for the day, but also had Samuel (5th, 14th, 17th 20th, 22nd, 24th, 44th; 55th) score eight-goals in a match. Three four-goal feats by Sajan Rajbhar (31st, 35th, 45th, 51st) Sajan Rajbhar (31st, 35th, 45th, 51st) and Deepakpreet Singh (34th, 38th, 40th, 56th) were the other highlights.
Gurjot Singh (6th), Jobanpreet Singh (18th, 27th); Varinder Singh (23rd); Arshpreep Singh (57th); Damanpreet Singh (52nd, 59th) added goals to the tally.
In a non-result oriented match, R.K Roy Academy were held by Jai Hockey Academy 1-1 in a Pool-H match with both goals coming off penalty corners. Saket Pradhan (37th) gave R.K Roy Academy the lead, before Gavin Rao (57th) won a point for Jai Hockey Academy.
Sports Hostel Jhansi handed Mumbai School Sports Association (MSSA) a 9-2 loss in Pool-B with three goals netted of penalty-corners. Anurag Singh (6th – p.c), Shubhankar Sonkar (7th); Akhilesh Yadav (9th) and Karan Dhanuk (32nd – p.c) netted one each, Shiva Savita (40th, 56th) a brace and Pralahad Panday (41st – p.c , 52nd, 57th) closed with a hat-trick.
