Pune: Rs 18 Crore Fine Collected For Not Wearing Mask and Spitting In Public

Pune, January 5, 2021: The Pune district administration has collected over Rs 18 crore fine from citizens for not wearing masks and spitting in public spaces. Despite repeated warnings issued by the administrations, the collected amount of fine highlights the fact — citizens flouting the COVID precautionary norms.

So far, action has been taken against 2.71 lakh citizens — most of them are from rural areas of Pune, while the rest are urban citizens violating the mandatory rules of wearing a mask when stepping outside and not to spit in public areas. A total amount of Rs 18.64 crore has been recovered in this task.

The police, police friends, health workers, municipal employees are in-charge of charging citizens with fines for flouting norms. Rural areas recorded the highest number of violators; action has been taken against over 2.32 lakh citizens. Fine recovered is more than Rs 5.20 crore. Whereas in Pune city, action has been taken against 2.4 lakh citizens, and an amount of Rs 9.83 crore has been recovered. In the Pimpri-Chinchwad area, 66,566 citizens were charged for violating the rules and a fine of more than Rs 3.60 crore is recovered from them, stated district collector Rajesh Deshmukh.

He has further warned the citizens stating that stricter actions will be taken against those who are not following the COVID precautionary guidelines of wearing masks and not spitting in public spaces.
