Pune, January 5, 2021: The process to credit provident funds (PF) interest of the last six months has finally started, giving relief to employees’ provident fund organisation (EPFO) affiliated members. The interest is credited as declared on the provident fund for the year 2019-20 to the account of PF members. PF holders can verify whether PF is credited to their PF account through four different options.

Last year, the ministry of labour had sent a proposal to the finance ministry that the PF interest amount should be paid to the members. The proposal was approved by the finance department. An interest rate of 8.5 percent has been sanctioned on PF for the year 2019-20. In September, it was decided to pay the interest in two phases. The first phase was proposed to give 8.15 percent and the second phase 0.35 percent. However, the ministry of labour had at the same time demanded that the entire 8.5 percent interest be paid to the members. The finance ministry has now agreed. An ordinance has been issued by the ministry of labour in this regard, informed labour minister Santosh Gangwar.
