Pune RTO Warns BH-Series Vehicle Owners Over Pending Tax; Daily Fine of Rs 100 for Delay
Pune, 3rd September 2025: The Pune Sub-Regional Transport Office (RTO) has issued a strict warning to vehicle owners with Bharat (BH) series registration plates who have failed to pay their mandatory vehicle tax after the expiry of the two-year period. Officials have reminded that a fine of Rs 100 per day will be imposed from the eighth day of default, as per the rules laid down by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.
The BH series registration, introduced in 2021, allows vehicle owners to use their vehicles across the country without requiring re-registration in different states. Under the scheme, road tax is collected once every two years. However, Pune RTO officials revealed that many BH-series vehicle owners have delayed or avoided paying the tax, resulting in rising penalty amounts.
Deputy Regional Transport Officer Swapnil Bhosale said, “The number of BH-series vehicles in Pune is quite large. Vehicle owners are expected to pay their dues on time. Otherwise, as per the rules, an additional fine of Rs 100 per day will be levied, and further action will be taken in case of prolonged delay.”
To facilitate payments, the Transport Department has provided an online facility on its official website. Vehicle owners can also pay the tax by contacting their nearest RTO office.
Authorities have made it clear that despite the flexibility of paying tax anywhere in the country, checks will be conducted to ensure compliance. Vehicle owners have been urged to clear dues within the stipulated period to avoid heavy penalties.
