Pune 14th Sept 2023: The Ruby Hall Clinic has written a letter to the Union Minister of State For Health and Family Welfare seeking her intervention on the alleged harassment by agents over usage of Indigent Patient Fund (IPF) Scheme. This came after a news report claimed that many hospitals in the city have stopped treating patients under the IPF scheme.

Earlier on Wednesday evening, the members of BJP’s youth wing created a chaos at Ruby Hall clinic seeking action against the trustee for failing to treat patients under the IPF scheme. The hospital authorities had to close the entry and exit gates of the hospital following this incident. The scheme provides free or treatment at low cost to the economically weaker section of the society.

“Ruby Hall Clinic is a premier healthcare Institute of Pune which annually does around Rs. 25 crores worth of charity for indigent and weaker section patients under the IPF scheme. However, we would like to bring to your notice that we are constantly being harassed and intimidated by agents and touts who mislead patients and their relatives and falsely promise to help them under the IPF scheme by falsifying papers and documents stating that they are economically poor patients. These patients are not economically deprived and do not fit under the criteria of IPF patients” the Hospital stated in the letter to the Union Minister.

“When the hospital personnel protest against this falsification, they are then threatened and intimidated by these people. As a result, a lot of non-deserving patients take advantage of this scheme and the poor and needy are left out of its ambit. This hurts the larger interest of the society and unnecessary and fake protests and demands are made to the hospital authorities. This has become a widespread malice which is hurting all genuine charitable hospitals like ours. We request you to look into this matter and solicit your intervention for an amicable closure which will help the poor patients and the charitable hospitals” the letter further reads.
