Pune, 27th October 2021: The officials from Rajgad police station under Pune rural police have busted a gang of thieves who had stolen jewellery worth Rs 81 lakhs and Rs 18 lakh cash from a trader in a travel bus.

Police have recovered 982 gram ornaments worth Rs 37.7 lakh and arrested two persons while the search is going on to nab their accomplices, informed Pune Rural SP Dr Abhinav Deshmukh at a press conference.

Rajgad Police Station’s Senior Police Inspector Sachin Patil and Assistant Police Inspector Pramod Pore were also present on the occasion.

The arrested persons have been identified as Maruti Rajaram Pitekar of Malangi and Ananta Laxman Dhande of Walwad, both from Karjat taluka of Ahmednagar district. Kamlesh Sukanraj Rathore has lodged a complaint at Rajgad police station.

According to police, Kamlesh was traveling from Hubli to Mumbai by private travel bus. At that time, three accused were traveling in the seat next to him. The accused are relatives of each other and a gang of six had been following Kamlesh for the past few days. At around midnight on the day of the incident, Kamlesh was traveling with Rs 18 lakh and gold worth Rs 81.24 lakh. Taking advantage of Kamlesh’s sleep, the accused stole his bag. After that, they told the driver to stop the bus as their boy had met with an accident and asked him to stop the bus. They got down and fled with the bag.

After learning about the theft, Kamlesh registered an FIR with Rajgad police station.

The investigation began under the guidance of Additional Superintendent of Police Milind Mohite, Sub-Divisional Police Officer Dhananjay Patil, Inspector Sachin Patil. A team led by Assistant Police Inspector Pramod Pore and Police Naik Madane went to Hubli and started an investigation. After getting leads, a team was sent there which arrested the two accused with the help of local police.

Police said that the accused used to keep a watch on jewellers and also used to stay in the same hotels and travelled in the same bus. After getting any chance, they used to steal bags of jewellers.

Dr Deshmukh said that the accused used to share stolen ornaments with their relatives and whenever police teams went to arrest them, they used to bring women in front and attack police to prevent them from arresting the accused persons. There are cases registered against them in different parts of Maharashtra and Karnataka.

The investigation team included API Manoj Kumar Navsare and police personnel Kharat, Todkar, Ghule, Mane, Madane, Jadhav, Rajivade, Lonakar, Marane, Bhor.
