Pune: Samarth Police Station Staff to Patrol on Bicycles

Pune, March 19, 2021: A mini sports ground, patrolling bicycle system, and CCTV cameras were inaugurated at Samarth Police Station on Friday. Kaustubh Radkar, who has finished Ironman Triathlon 25 times, was the special guest at the event.

Pune Municipal Corporation Commissioner Vikram Kumar, Joint Commissioner of Police Dr Ravindra Shisve, DCP (Zone 2), Sagar Patil, ACP Satish Govekar, PMC Leader of House Ganesh Bidkar were present on occasion.

Pune City Police Commissioner Amitabh Gupta has said that the police staff should maintain physical fitness and make security strong by preventing crimes so that citizens feel safe.

Senior Police Inspector Vishnu Tamhane, in-charge of Samarth police station, said, “The area under our jurisdiction is highly congested with narrow lanes. Hence, I discussed the plan of patrolling on bicycles with my officers and staff. After discussion, we brought this thought into reality”.

Municipal Commissioner Vikram Kumar said that the municipality has provided 10 Fantom company bicycles and installed 160 CCTV cameras in the area. “Cycling will also help in improving the fitness of police personnel. We have also planned a cycle project for the citizens”, he added.

Jt CP Ravindra Shisve said that Samarth police station has become the first police station in Maharashtra where every locality is covered under CCTV cameras.

A mini sports ground was also inaugurated at the police station’s backside, where police personnel can play volleyball, badminton, and handball. Senior Inspector of Police Vishnu Tamhane came up with the idea of patrolling on bicycles.
