Pune: Sarasbaug Redevelopment Plan In Final Stage
Pune, 17th December 2022: The process of preparing a master plan for the redevelopment of Sarasbaug and Peshwa Park is currently underway by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). The presentation before finalizing this plan has been done in the Municipal Corporation recently. The expenditure of Rs 5.4 crore is expected to get final approval in the coming weeks.
The municipality decided to transform the Sarasbaug and Peshwa Park parks two years ago. The process of preparing the master plan of nearly 32 acres of land has reached its final stage. Sarasbaug and Peshwa Park will be set up as international standard botanical gardens on a ‘PPP’ or ‘BOT’ basis.
A provision of Rs 5.4 crore has been made in the budget for this purpose. This plan is being prepared to keep the Peshwa-era Ganesha temple at Sarasbaug and Sri Devdeveshwar Sansthan in the middle. Also, these parks are going to be redeveloped without affecting the trees and biodiversity present in the park.
Ravindra Binwade, Additional Municipal Commissioner said, “The presentation of the master plan of Sarasbaug and Peshwa Park Gardens was held in the Municipal Corporation recently. It has been asked to make some improvements. After making the relevant amendments, the approval of the Estimate Committee will be taken to work as per the ‘Master Plan’. To get the final approval of this, steps will be taken in the coming weeks.”
