Pune, 17th April 2025: A six-member expert committee from Sassoon General Hospital submitted its findings on Wednesday evening regarding the alleged medical negligence in the death of 26-year-old Tanisha Bhise, who passed away days after childbirth last month.

The confidential report — the fourth in connection with the case — was hand-delivered to the Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DMER) and the Alankar police station, according to hospital officials. However, as of late Wednesday night, police officials claimed they had not yet received the document.

“The report was delivered by hand to ensure that it would not be leaked and to maintain the integrity of the process,” said Dr. Yallappa Jadhav, Medical Superintendent of Sassoon General Hospital and head of the inquiry committee. “We acted on a request from the Alankar police to investigate the matter. Our panel included specialists from paediatrics, anaesthesia, gynaecology, internal medicine, and forensic science.”

Despite the submission, there remained confusion over the document’s arrival. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone III), Sambhaji Kadam, said, “We have been informed that the report was sent, but as of now, it has not reached us.”

Senior Inspector Sunita Rokade of Alankar police station confirmed the delay. “No one has delivered the report to our station so far,” she told reporters on Wednesday evening.

Officials at Sassoon Hospital and BJ Medical College remained tight-lipped about the content of the report, citing the sensitivity of the case. “Our committee worked late into Tuesday night to complete the investigation within an exceptionally short timeframe,” said Dr. Eknath Pawar, Dean of BJ Medical College, which is affiliated with Sassoon General Hospital.

The report’s findings are crucial in determining whether a First Information Report (FIR) will be registered against Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital, where the alleged denial of treatment took place.
Tanisha Bhise was reportedly refused admission at Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital on March 28. She was later taken to Surya Hospital, where she gave birth to twins on March 29. After her condition deteriorated, she was shifted to Manipal Hospital. She died there on March 31.

The committee’s review was based on medical records from all hospitals involved in her care, including Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital, Surya Hospital, Manipal Hospital, and Indira IVF — the clinic where Bhise underwent fertility treatment.

The outcome of the report is now awaited, as it may pave the way for legal action or further inquiry into the role of the Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital in the case.
