Pune : Sassoon Hospital to Soon Introduce New Rules to Monitor Health of Prisoners Hospitalised For Treatment
Pune 19th Oct 2023: The authorities at Sassoon General Hospital have decided to soon come up with a new set of rules to monitor the prisoners admitted for the treatment. This includes daily evaluation of prisoner’s health to avoid their long stay at the hospital. The decision was taken after serious allegations were raised against the authorities for extending the hospital stay of prisoners.
According to reports, the treating doctor has been instructed to evaluate the health of the prisoners every day and he has been given authority to take a call on discharging the patient. It may be noted that the issue related to long stay of prisoners at Ward Number 16 of the Sassoon General Hospital was raised after Lalit Patil, the drug racketeer who was being treated here escaped the custody.
A list of other high profile prisoners who were being treated here indicated that many of them were staying at the hospital for a long time even for the treatment that might not require such a long stay. The corruption allegations were also raised against concerned officials for extending the stay of prisoners against bribe money. The state government has already formed a committee to investigate the matter related to Lalit Patil’s escape from the hospital.
