Pune: Savitribai Phule Pune University Organizes “Kridakumbh-2026” Sports Competitions
Pune, 5th March 2026: The Savitribai Phule Pune University Postgraduate Gymkhana (PGG) and the School of Education – Department of Sports and Physical Education have organized the “Kridakumbh-2026” sports competitions for students of university departments from March 4 to March 7, 2026.
The competitions include badminton, cricket, chess, basketball, table tennis, tug-of-war, athletics, throwball, and cross-country events. These competitions are being held at various playgrounds within the university’s Khashaba Jadhav Sports Complex.
Around 35 teams from different university departments are participating in the competitions, with approximately 400 players registered for the event.
The inauguration ceremony of “Kridakumbh-2026” was held on March 4, 2026, at the Indoor Hall of the Khashaba Jadhav Sports Complex. The event was inaugurated by Vice-Chancellor Suresh Gosavi, in the presence of Pro-Vice-Chancellor Parag Kalkar.
Also present on the occasion were the Director of the School of Education Prof. (Dr.) Vilas Adhav, Senate Member Krishna Bhandalkar, Assistant Director of the Sports and Physical Education Board, Dr. Sudam Shelke, and faculty members of the Department of Sports and Physical Education, including Dr. Suman Pandey, Dr. Abhijeet Kadam, Dr. Dadasaheb Dhengale, and Assistant Deepak Ghole, along with students from various departments and participating athletes.
The Department of Sports and Physical Education also presented a fitness workout demonstration during the inauguration ceremony.
Addressing the gathering, Pro-Vice-Chancellor Dr. Parag Kalkar said that Pune is gradually establishing a distinct identity in the field of sports. He added that efforts are underway to organize the Olympic Games in India in 2036, and that Pune and the university can play an important role in this vision. He emphasized that the Department of Sports and Physical Education and athletes must continue working hard to achieve excellence.
In his address, Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Suresh Gosavi announced that the Savitribai Phule Pune University Sports Club will soon be launched on campus, along with the development of various sports laboratories to enhance athletic skills. He also appealed to students and athletes to make maximum use of the sports facilities and playgrounds available at the university.
On the occasion, Vice-Chancellor Suresh Gosavi, Pro-Vice-Chancellor Parag Kalkar, Prof. (Dr.) Vilas Adhav, and Krishna Bhandalkar also participated in a friendly badminton game, adding a lively touch to the inaugural event.
