Pune 14th Sept 2023: The traffic department of the Pune City Police has decided to open colleges and school grounds for parking during the ganesh festival in the city to curb the illegal parking issue. The decision was taken to tackle the traffic jam issues in the city during the ganesh festival as a large number of visitors visit ganesh pandals and the roads become crowded during that period.

The officials of the traffic department held talks with several colleges and schools located in the areas where majority of ganesh pandals are installed that witness heavy rush of visitors. Many of the institutes have agreed to provide their grounds at free of cost for parking facilities while some of them will charge for it due to which parking facilities at some places will be chargeable, said officials.

It may be noted that Ganesh festival is celebrated in a grand celebration in Pune and a large number of visitors visit the pandals located in the city especially those in Peth areas having history of years. However, these visitors park their vehicles on the road which leads to heavy traffic jams in the evening and make the work difficult for the traffic department to manage the traffic movement.
