Pune: Selfless Robins Come to the Rescue of Injured Elderly Man in Viman Nagar

Viman Nagar, 24th December 2024: While many choose to stand by as mere onlookers during accidents, two members of the Robin Hood Army in Pune showed extraordinary compassion and quick thinking, saving the life of an elderly man struck by a vehicle in Viman Nagar on Monday evening.
The incident occurred at around 5 PM near the bus stand next to Nyati Express Society in Viman Nagar. An elderly man, reportedly a beggar with no family, was found lying upside down, unable to move, and in a severely unhygienic condition. Despite being in distress, he managed to communicate that he had been hit by a vehicle.
Shubham, a volunteer from the Robin Hood Army’s Akurdi chapter, was passing by the area on his way home when he noticed the man. Speaking about the incident, Shubham said, “I saw him lying there in terrible condition at the bus stand and immediately contacted the Robinhood Army Helpline to take action.”
Aadil, a volunteer from the Viman Nagar chapter, responded promptly. Recalling the scene, he said, “When I reached, I found him lying upside down, half-naked, dirty, and reeking terribly as he had urinated there. He couldn’t move, but he was able to talk. He told me, ‘Gaadi ne thoka (a vehicle hit me).’ I immediately called an ambulance and informed the police.”
Aadil, along with the ambulance staff, lifted the injured man and ensured he was transported to Sassoon Hospital within 30 minutes. He praised the prompt response from the ambulance and Vimantal Police Station, saying, “The ambulance and police acted very quickly, which is truly commendable.”
The elderly man had reportedly been seen moving around until Sunday but had been lying in the same spot for hours on Monday due to his injuries.
The Robin Hood Army, a zero-fund organization focused on distributing surplus food to the underprivileged, also operates a helpline for emergencies. Volunteers like Shubham and Aadil prove that their commitment extends far beyond food distribution.
