Pune: ‘Simba’ and ‘James’ Join Pimpri-Chinchwad City Police Force to Enhance Crime-Solving Abilities
Pimpri-Chinchwad, 14th September 2023: Two highly-trained dogs named ‘Simba’ and ‘James’ have officially become a part of the Pimpri-Chinchwad city police force. These four-legged additions are poised to play a vital role in enhancing the investigative capabilities of the police in the region.

The creation of an independent police commissionerate for Pimpri-Chinchwad city marked a pivotal moment in its security landscape, as it became operational on August 15, 2018. However, over the course of five years, the Police Commissionerate faced certain resource challenges. Now, with the induction of ‘Simba’ and ‘James,’ the force is poised to overcome some of these obstacles.
‘Simba’ will primarily be tasked with dealing with crimes such as theft, burglary, and murder. His specialized training enables him to visit crime scenes and assist in tracking down suspects, significantly bolstering the investigative process.
On the other hand, ‘James’ will serve as a valuable addition to the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS). His role will be crucial in detecting and neutralizing potential threats, enhancing the safety and security of the region.
To ensure the optimal care and training of these police canines, dedicated coaches have been appointed. These trainers will oversee all aspects of the dogs’ well-being, including their diet, exercise, medication, and, most importantly, their rigorous training.
These highly trained dogs are known to be incredibly obedient, responding solely to their trainers who have been with them since their introduction into the police force. This close bond ensures seamless coordination during operations, making ‘Simba’ and ‘James’ invaluable assets to the Pimpri-Chinchwad city police force.
In the past, Pimpri-Chinchwad police have had to rely on the Pune city police dog squad to assist in various criminal investigations, leading to technical challenges and delays. With the addition of these two canine officers, the police force is now better equipped to investigate and solve a wide range of crimes efficiently.
