Pune: Six People Posing As Fake Journalists Extort Rs 5 Lakhs From Businessman; Four Arrested So Far

Mundhwa, 26th October 2022: A case has been registered against six fake journalists who extorted Rs five lakh by threatening to kill a businessman by publishing news in a newspaper. Four of them have been arrested by the Mundhwa police late on Tuesday (October 25) night.

 

The arrested fake journalists have been identified as Pramod Salunkhe, Wajid Sayyad, Mangesh Tambe and Laxman Singh Tanwar. A case has been registered against Yogesh Nagpure and the editor of Atmajyoti, Sanjivani Kadam.

 

The incident took place on October 23 at a godown in Datta Colony in Keshavnagar. Tejaram Bhimaji Desai (42), a resident of Keshav Nagar, Mundhwa has lodged a complaint at Mundhwa Police Station.

 

According to the information given by the police, the complainant has a godown in Datta Colony in Keshav Nagar. Accused Pramod Salunke and Wajid Sayyad went to their godown on Sunday (October 23) while Mangesh Tambe, Yogesh Nagpure, and Laxman Singh Tanwar were waiting outside the warehouse.

 

Pramod Salunkhe told the complainant that he was a journalist for a leading English newspaper and Atmajyoti paper.

 

He accused the complainant of running a illegal business by selling adulterated food grains in the godown besides selling Gutkha in the past. He further stated that he will publish the news in the paper regarding this and defame him. He threatened that if the money is not paid, he will kill the family. He also beat the complainant’s son.

 

As soon as a case was registered, Mundhwa police arrested fake journalists.

 

The operation was carried out by Senior Police Inspector Ajit Lakde, Police Inspector Kakade, Assistant Police Inspector Karpe and police personnel Nana Bhandurge, Hemant Zhurunge, Rahul More, Raju Kadam, Yogesh Gaikwad and Vaibhav More.
