Pune: Slow Admission Process Leaves 32,000 RTE Seats Vacant As Deadline Approaches
Pune, 21st May 2023: Despite three deadline extensions, the admission process under the Right to Education Act (RTE) is witnessing a sluggish pace in Pune. With the last day to confirm admission being Monday (May 22), there are still 32,000 seats left vacant.
The Directorate of Primary Education is responsible for conducting the RTE admission process, which offers 1,01,846 seats in 8,823 schools across the state this year. A total of 3,63,413 applications were received for these seats, out of which 94,700 students were admitted through the lottery system. According to statistics on the RTE website, only 62,400 students have confirmed their admission so far, leaving approximately 32,000 seats unfilled.
Despite the deadline extensions, the admission process has been progressing slowly. Many parents are struggling to find suitable schools for their children, resulting in the seats remaining vacant. The education department has clarified that once the term of students on the selection list expires, the admission process for students on the waiting list will commence. Therefore, waiting list students are eagerly awaiting notifications to confirm their admission.
The authorities are urging parents to complete the admission process before the deadline to ensure that deserving students can secure their spots. It is essential for parents to actively participate and confirm admissions for their children to fill the remaining vacant seats.
The RTE admission process plays a crucial role in ensuring access to quality education for underprivileged children. The education department is working diligently to facilitate smooth admissions and address the concerns of parents and students. Efforts are being made to streamline the process and ensure that all eligible students receive the opportunity to enroll in schools as per their preferences.
As the deadline looms, parents are encouraged to promptly confirm admissions to utilize the available RTE seats and provide deserving students with equal educational opportunities.
