Social Activist, Marathi Writer Dr Anil Awachat Passes Away

Pune, 27th January 2022: Senior social activist Dr Anil Awachat (78) passed away today due to a long illness. He was admitted to the hospital for treatment later brought home on Monday. He took his last breath at his residence in Patrakarnagar, Pune. He was cremated at 2 pm today.

Chairman of the Muktangan trust Dr Anand Nadkarni said that Dr Awachat had suffered a fall on Jan 15 and fractured his right femur (hip bone). “He did not recover after the surgery and as per his wishes wanted minimum life support. Subsequently, he was discharged from the hospital on Monday and today died peacefully at 9.15 am,” Dr Nadkarni said.

Dr Awachat had created a distinct identity not only in the literary world but also in society. He started ‘Muktangan’, a de-addiction centre to help the addicts to lead a new life. He had published his first book ‘Purnia’ in 1969, and since then he has written on many social issues. He has published more than 38 books in his lifetime.
