Pune: Special Ward For Transgenders Opened At Sassoon Hospital

Pune 17th August 2023: The Minister of Medical Education Maharashtra Hassan Mushrif on Wednesday inaugurated the special ward for transgender community patients at Sassoon General Hospital. A 24-bed ward aims to focus on general health of transgenders and has two additional ICU beds.

Consideting the health issues faced by the transgenders the hospital authorities have also said that the staff working at this ward will be provided sensitisation training. The activits and members of the community appreciated the step and appealed the other hospitals to follow this.

Earlier, a similar ward was inaugurated at the government-run Gokuldas Tejpal hospital in Mumbai. That was the first such initiative in Maharashtra. The government had asked the members from community to share their suggestion and feedback to extend the facility across the state.
