Pune: SPPU Announces Recruitment for 111 Faculty Posts; Applications Open Until December 7
Pune, 5th November 2025: Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) has announced a fresh recruitment drive for 111 vacant faculty positions, including Professors, Associate Professors, and Assistant Professors, across its various academic departments. Eligible candidates can submit their applications online until December 7, 2025, according to an official circular issued by Registrar Dr. Jyoti Bhakare.
This new advertisement marks the university’s third attempt to fill these posts after earlier recruitment notifications published in December 2023 and September 2024 were delayed due to administrative reasons. The prolonged delay had caused widespread dissatisfaction among qualified teaching aspirants across the state.
University officials stated that the faculty shortage has affected teaching, research, and administrative functions, besides impacting the university’s national ranking and student intake. Several teachers’ associations had organized protests demanding the immediate commencement of the recruitment process.

The move follows the Maharashtra government’s Higher and Technical Education Department’s Government Resolution (GR) issued on October 6, 2025, which introduced new norms for university-level faculty recruitment. Under the revised policy, the evaluation weightage for candidates has been fixed at 25 marks for academic eligibility and 75 marks for interviews.
However, experts have expressed concerns that certain provisions in the GR could make the process more complex. Despite this, the university has decided to proceed with the recruitment process under the updated framework.
