Pune students shine in international architecture competition

Pune, October 31: Five architecture students from Pune shone in an internationally acclaimed architecture competition – ‘The Drawing Board’ – by making it to the final round. Jointly organized every year by Mindspace Architects, a Bengaluru-based architecture firm and Rohan Builders from Pune, the seventh edition of ‘The Drawing Board’, an international competition for design and architecture students, was recently held.

 

This year the competition had over 2700 participants including architecture students from more than 25 countries. The competition was divided into two parts. Students were asked to submit their design presentations online in the first step and then the best eight entries, as chosen by a panel of judges, were invited to make an in-person presentation to the jury of architects in the final round.

 

Prathamesh Pawar, Arjun Borkar and Aniket Tambe from DY Patil School of Architecture, Pune and Ameya Rathi and Taniya Jose from SMEFS Brick School of Architecture, Pune made it to the final round by showing their skills.

 

Ketan Gupta and Vaibhavi Dhiman from School of Architecture Planning and Design, Dehradun won the competition, while Nimit Bhansali and Rutwik Kokadwar from SPA, Vijaywada bagged the second position and the Viewer’s Choice Award.

 

Michal Ryplewicz and Sebastian Skrzypkowski from Gdansk University of Technology, Poland and Kashishi Singh and Shubhashi Anand from Wadiyar Centre for Architecture, Mysuru were placed third in ‘The Drawing Board’ competition.

 

The other finalists were – Nikunj Agarwal and Kaustubh Kadgale from PriyadarshiniInstitute of Architecture and Design Studies, Nagpur and Shireen Zakir Hussain Sayyad and Sanyukta Wagulde from CANS, Nashik. This year’s design challenge was to create a memorial for famed architect Charles Correa in order to honour his unparalleled legacy.

 

This year’s jury panel included people who were closely connected to Charles Correa, including Architect Henri Comrie (Founder, URBA, Cape Town), Prof. Durganand Balsavar (Founder, Artes ROOTS Collaborative, Goa), and Architect Sachin Agshikar (Principal Architect at Sachin Agshikar Architects, Mumbai).

 

Suhas Lunkad,Chairman and Managing Director, Rohan Builders, and Architect Sanjay Mohe of Mindspace Architects have conceptualised this architecture competition as an attempt to provide architectural students with real-world design challenges.

 

The primary goal was to provide a platform for students to understand the important role that architecture plays in shaping the world.
