Pune: Supervisors And Center Directors To Be Replaced At Exam Centers With History Of Cheating; Board Aims For Cheating-Free Examination

Pune, 1st February 2025: In a major crackdown on exam malpractices, the Pune Divisional Board has decided to replace Supervisors and Center Directors at 264 exam centers where cheating has been recorded since 2018. This decision affects 139 centers for Class 10 and 125 centers for Class 12 across three districts—Pune, Ahilyanagar, and Solapur.
The move comes under the Chief Minister’s 100-Point Program, aimed at ensuring cheating-free board examinations. Initially, the proposal faced resistance from Teachers’ and Principals’ Associations as well as teacher MLAs. However, the Board revised its approach, opting to replace officials only at centers with documented irregularities, excluding the COVID-affected exam years.
According to official data, the highest number of malpractice cases for Class 12 were recorded in Ahilyanagar (56 centers), followed by Pune (35) and Solapur (34). For Class 10, Ahilyanagar reported 50 centers, while Pune and Solapur recorded 42 and 47 centers, respectively. The Supervisors and Center Directors at these centers will now be appointed from other schools through the Education Officer.
To strengthen exam security, the Board has mandated CCTV surveillance in all schools. However, with many institutions yet to comply, enforcement will now rely on seven flying squads per district, tasked with inspecting centers during exams. Additionally, sitting squads at each center have been instructed to maintain strict vigilance.
In a further effort to curb cheating, authorities have announced that any exam center found guilty of malpractice in the future will face permanent cancellation of its license.
