Pune, 17th September 2022: Out of 44,345 villages in Maharashtra state, 26,000 villages have been surveyed by drone and nine lakh property tracts have been distributed. The Central Government has started ‘Swamitwa Yojana’ to make available the rights records in the form of pamphlets to the property holders of all the villages which have not been surveyed.

Under this scheme, property slips of ownership rights are being distributed to the villagers in the villages. A workshop on ownership schemes was organized by the Survey of India and Settlement Commissionerate. After this workshop Settlement Commissioner, N. K. Sudhanshu gave this information.

Settlement Commissioner Sudhanshu said, “In 2020, this scheme was implemented in the states of Maharashtra, Karnataka, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh and Punjab. After that, it has been implemented all over the country. Under this scheme, records are being prepared by surveying the places (houses, land) in the villages. Also, property papers are being given to the people there.”

“41,000 villages across the country have been surveyed so far. Maharashtra is the first state to provide property statements online. Meanwhile, as a pilot project at Sonori in Purandar taluka of Pune district, in the year 2018, village panchayats were surveyed and distribution of income tracts was done,” he added further.

As the initiative at Sonori was technically successful, the State Government’s Rural Development Department decided to implement the Gaothan Land Survey Scheme for the state of Maharashtra in collaboration with the Revenue Department on February 22, 2019.

Seeing the success of this scheme and its impact on rural life, the central government has accepted this scheme. Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the Panchayat Raj Scheme in May 2020. The ownership scheme implemented across the country started in Maharashtra. Under this scheme, after surveying six lakh 50 thousand villages in the country, property cards are being given to the people there. The goal is to be achieved by the year 2025.
