Pune Sweltering Under Scorching Heat as Maximum Temperature Reaches 40.1°C

Pune, 10th May 2023: Pune residents experienced a mix of relief and discomfort as heavy rains gave way to unseasonal showers in the evening. However, the afternoon sun turned the city into an inferno, with the maximum temperature soaring to 40.1 degrees Celsius. This sudden change in weather left everyone bewildered, considering the recent cool spell.

Following a humid morning, the sun blazed in the afternoon, intensifying the heat. The unseasonal rain clouds have now dissipated, and the weather department forecasts mostly clear skies for the next three days. Pune residents should prepare for scorching afternoons and endure hot and humid conditions during this period.

Across the Maharashtra state, heatwaves have surged following the stormy rains. Several regions have witnessed temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius, with Vidarbha and North Maharashtra experiencing intense heat. Thursday (11th) is anticipated to bring hot and dry weather to the state, accompanied by a 3 to 4-degree temperature rise. The Konkan region, in particular, is expected to face increased discomfort from humid and sweltering conditions.

An active low-pressure belt at 5.8 km above sea level, extending from the Bay of Bengal to south Andhra Pradesh, has contributed to the prevailing weather patterns. Beginning today, predominantly hot and dry weather is predicted across the state, with the scorching heat and rising temperatures likely to persist.
