Pune: Talathi and Mediator Arrested in Baner for Accepting Rs 10,000 Bribe from Applicant
Baner, 28th December 2024: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested a Talathi and a middleman from Baner for accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 to register an heir. During the investigation, the ACB team inspected Talathi’s car and discovered cash amounting to Rs 3 lakh. A case has been registered against the Talathi and the middleman at the Baner Police Station under the Prevention of Corruption Act of 1988.
The accused have been identified as Talathi Umesh Vitthal Devghade (39) and mediator Kaluram Gyandev Marne (39), a resident of Sinhagad Road. The case originated from a complaint lodged with the ACB. The complainant stated that his father, who owned land in Baner, had willed it to the complainant’s wife. Following his father’s death on 29th August, the complainant applied at the Talathi office in Baner with the necessary documents to register his wife as the heir.
On 18th December, the complainant met Talathi Devghade, who demanded a bribe of Rs 20,000 to process the registration. After negotiation, the amount was reduced to Rs 10,000. Following that, the ACB set a trap at the Talathi office in Baner. Marne was caught accepting the bribe on behalf of Devghade. During questioning, Marne admitted to collecting the bribe for Devghade. Further inspection of Devghade’s car led to the discovery of Rs 3 lakh in cash.
The operation was conducted under the guidance of Pune ACB Superintendent of Police Shirish Sardeshpande and Additional Superintendent Dr. Sheetal Janve. Deputy Superintendent of Police Neeta Misal is leading the investigation.
