Pune: Techie Duped Under Pretext Of Lucrative IT Job

Kothrud, September 23, 2020: ThePune City police have registered a case against unidentified persons for allegedly duping a 25-year-old woman to the tune of Rs 33,000 on the pretext of providing a job at a renowned IT company.

“The victim received a call on February 11, stating that her application has been shortlisted on naukri.com for the position of a Support engineer in a reputed IT firm, ready to offer a high package. However, the accused demanded Rs 33,350 to forward her application further”, said Police Inspector (PI) Kiran Balwadkar of Kothrud police station.

When the victim paid the amount, her calls were not answered and her money wasn’t refunded. “Two people had called the victim. One of them was a woman who claimed to shortlist her profile while another was a man who pretended to be an HR with the reputed firm”, added Inspector Balwadkar.

When asked about the mode of payment, the officer informed that all the transactions were done through net banking. The case was registered after seven months as the refund was not given, despite repeated calls by the victim.

Police said that they have registered a case against unidentified persons for offences under sections 419(cheating by impersonation),420(cheating) and 34(act by several people with common intention) of the Indian Penal code(IPC).

“We are investigating the case further and will take action soon”, said Balwadkar.
